Environmentally Friendly Products

We are committed to becoming a truly sustainable business. This means having the ability to continue providing our customers with high quality products and services in ways that do not significantly damage the environment.

Our Environmental and Ethical Policy:

  • To reduce our emissions to avoid adverse impacts upon the environment
  • To use and take from the environment resources such as water to not exceed a rate, wherever possible, that exceeds natural regeneration rates.
  • To reduce the use of all raw materials, energy and supplies
  • To operate in a socially responsible manner
  • To achieve compliance with, and wherever possible to better, European, National and local codes, environmental consents and directives and attempt to attain best practice
  • To conserve and protect the environment in our operations
  • Raise awareness, encourage participation and train employees in environmental matters
  • Liaise with the local community and participate in discussions about environmental issues.
  • Assist customers to use products and services in an environmentally-sensitive way
  • Encourage where possible similar environmental standards from all suppliers and contractors

We have had an Environmental Assessment completed on our environmental impacts under phase two of our environmental commitment. This was carried out by a company called Eco-Logical. This report has highlighted ways in which we can improve the environmental performance of Graig Farm. This process is adaptable to changing technology and new ideas so if you have any suggestions that may help reduce our environmental footprint or feel there are any areas we have missed please contact us. One of our aims is to make our environmental commitment as transparent and comprehensive as possible

Global Warming

We believe that Global Warming is the greatest threat mankind has ever faced. Not only does it threaten our way of life, but, unlike previous threats to humanity, it fundamentally threatens the well being of the whole world. Action, we beleive, is needed now.

What are we doing now?

In parallel with examining all our activities with a view to reducing our CO2 production, we are attempting to become a low resource user in our present activities.

We have calculated our annual carbon emissions, involved in the day-to-day operation of Graig Farm Organics, to be in the region of 100 tonnes. We are paying for these to be neutralised through a range of environmental actions. This is being carried out by a company called Climate Care (www.climatecare.org). We chose this organisation as it is looking at the solutions beyond simply planting trees, which is a medium and long-term solution to capturing CO2. The problem we believe is more urgent that the 10-20 years it would take for a tree to start locking up significant amounts of CO2. (See BBC news item here). Climate Care use methods including distribution of low energy light bulbs and efficient cooking stoves in developing countries, as well as replanting rainforest in Uganda. What can you do?

If you would like to offset the CO2 produced by transporting your mail order delivery to you, we offer you the opportunity to do so (on a purely voluntary basis) at the final stage of our on-line ordering process. We suggest 30p per delivery, but the sum you choose (if any) is entirely up to you. All monies collected in this way will be sent to Climate Care for use in projects which demonstrably reduce CO2 in the environment.

The Future

Solutions to the problem of reducing atmospheric carbon are only just beginning. As the rush to solve the problem accelerates, we will no doubt have other alternative ways to ensure that we achieve our aim of being a low-carbon company.
